Harry Pike: Lead teacher of History

Where did you grow up?

Grew up in Lewisham and went to school near Croydon.

What was your favourite subject at school?

I was an all-rounder, but I especially enjoyed History and Geography. I was good at them and I was allowed to study them both. I had a really good History teacher who was really encouraging.

Where did you go to university?

I went to Warwick University and studied History. I lived on campus for one year and then in Leamington Spa for two years. It was not too far from home and I could easily get back for regular visits.

What made you decide to go into teaching?

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Although I studied History, I wasn't at all sure what I wanted to do as a career. A History degree is a good springboard into all sorts of different careers, really. I considered law and finance before deciding on teaching. Although both my parents were teachers, they did not actively push me towards this profession. I did not take a gap year, instead going straight into teaching at Capital City at the age of 21.

What are your hobbies outside of work?

I love watching sport, especially football. I am a season ticket holder at Millwall. I like socialising with friends and travelling during the holidays, both in this country and abroad. I particularly enjoy ski trips abroad.

What is your favourite part of the job you currently do and about working at Capital?

What I enjoy most about my job and about working at Capital City is the same thing: the students. I love teaching these students as they have big personalities and make teaching them a real pleasure.
