Current Job Title: Teacher of Art (Textiles Specialist)
Where did you grow up? I was born in Portugal. I came to this country as a child. I grew up in London: right here in Kensal Green!
What was your favourite subject at school? My favourite subject at school was Art.
What university did you go to and what did you study? I Studied at Central Saint Martins and Nottingham Trent University.
What made you decide to go into teaching? I studied Fashion Design at university and worked as a fashion designer for several years before becoming a teacher. (Come and see me in the Textiles room if you want to see examples of my work or hear stories about the time Lewis Hamilton and the rest of the F1 drivers modelled my designs at the Monaco Grand Prix!) I’ve always loved learning and exploring different creative processes and techniques and there is no job more varied and creative than teaching Art and Design.
What are your hobbies outside of work? My hobbies are always changing as what I’m really passionate about is learning new skills, whether it be sugar paste modelling for cake decorating, 3D knitting for soft sculpture or traditional wood carving for block printing; I am always creating and making.
What encouraged you to apply to work at Capital? I love sharing my passion for creativity with students. It’s really exciting seeing projects come to life when students step out of their comfort zones and take risks. It's great watching creativity spread as students inspire each other by sharing their work.
What have been some of your highlights? My favourite thing about working at Capital is the people. I’m part of a really creative, committed and passionate team and we have the honour of working with some incredible young people.
