Year 7 and 8 Flexiday
Posted on: 25/02/2019Year 7 and 8 students took part in a Flexiday where they participated in careers education sessions for their work-related learning.
Year 7 begun with ‘What are Employability Skills?’ where students got the opportunity to visit Careers Information stalls and were able to ask questions they completed in their booklet from the previous session. Employers represented included; Middlesex University, the London Fire Brigade, TfL, HM Revenue & Customs, the Army, King's College London and the Metropolitan Police.
Year 7 & 8 students also attended an Employer Presentation in the QSB Theatre from employers talking about their roles and what they offer. Some students were given the opportunity to put a fire brigade uniform on within a minute!
In addition, Year 8 had an employability skills session to raise students’ awareness of the types of skills that exist and their importance. Afterwards they should be able to explain the importance of transferable skills.
They took part in the ‘Tower Challenge’ which was led by our Year 12 business leaders.
Students were split into teams and were challenged to build the highest free-standing structure that could support the weight of a golf ball…lots of amazing towers of various types and success!
Our students said:
“We worked together to come up with the best product “
“We listened to everyone’s ideas”
“We planned out the design and what order we would do and what resources we were going to use”
