Admissions

As an Academy with a specialism in sport Capital City Academy will select 10% of students on their aptitude for sport.

The remaining 90% of places will be open to application from all, and places will be allocated in accordance with the admissions policy.

Q: My child is transferring to secondary school next year, what do I need to do to secure a place?

A: Your child will need to go through the secondary transfer process which begins at the start of Year 6. This process is co-ordinated across London which means you no longer apply directly to the school. You must apply to the local council in which you are resident.

You will need to complete a Common application form (CAF) -
No longer available for download.  If you are a Brent resident and your child currently attends a Brent primary school your child will be given an application pack at school. You can also pick up an application pack from Brent libraries, one stop shops or directly from the Brent School Admissions Team by contacting them on 020 8937 3110 or email school.admissions@brent.gov.uk

Admissions Policy

Capital City Academy uses a Fair Banding Scheme to ensure that the school admits students of all abilities.

After the admission of students with Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN), all applicants for Year 7 will be asked to take a test of verbal and non verbal reasoning at the Academy.

Based on the test scores, applicants will be placed in four bands:

·    Those with the best 25% of test scores

·    Those with the second 25% of test scores

·    Those with the third 25% of test scores

·    Those with the fourth 25% of test scores

Within each band, places will be allocated using the following criteria:

1.                Up to 10% of students will be admitted on the basis of aptitude in sport and dance using specified tests.

2.                Students ‘looked after’ by the Brent LEA (i.e. Children in Public Care).

3.                Students for whom it is essential to be admitted to a specific school because of special circumstances to do with significant medical needs or social needs.

4.                Students whose siblings currently attend the school and who will continue to do so on the date of admission.

5.                Proximity to the school using straight-line measurement.

Capital City Academy is heavily oversubscribed in all year groups.  A waiting list is maintained in order of the admissions criteria above.
