Alex Thomas, Principal receiving the

Outstanding Contribution to Sports

          Award for Capital City Academy

Capital City Academy is very excited to be celebrating record examination results for students in Year 11 and 13.  GCSE results show a large increase on last year with 71% of our students gaining 5 or more A*-C grades, 44% including English and Mathematics.  The top performers at GCSE secured fantastic results, some students gained 9 or more A* or A grades.  All of our Year 11 students achieved qualifications and we look forward to welcoming them back in Sixth Form or other high quality training or employment.  The Year 13 achieved 40% A*-B grades with some students achieving the new top A* grade.  Average points score per student and per entry were also up enabling many of them to secure places at university.  Students will be studying a range of courses from Dentistry to Sports Management at universities including Durham, Bath, Westminster and Sussex.

These results are the product of a lot of hard work by students and staff during the last academic year and before.  We wish all those moving on from the Academy our best wishes for the future.  A new term brings new students to school.  I hope that the new Year 7 settle quickly and enjoy their first term at secondary school and new sixth formers make a productive start to their new courses.

The recruitment process for entry in September 2011 begins soon with our Open Evening on Thursday 16th September, 5.30- 8pm.

Alex Thomas, Principal.

Capital City Academy "makes a positive difference to the lives of its students"

green_tickgif.gifCapital City Academy was inspected by Ofsted on 12th and 13th November.  Inspectors judged that the schools "overall effectiveness is good and [that] it is making a positive difference to the lives of its students."  They reported that "students are firmly at the centre of its work but the academy also reaches out to its community."

Achievement was judged good. Inspectors noted that standards are now "broadly in line with national expectations" and that students "make very good progress".  The quality of teaching and the personal development and well being of students and their behaviour are also good.

Many other features were found to be outstanding, including leadership and management, care, guidance and support for students, the curriculum, partnership working, promotion of healthy lifestyles, students' contribution to the community and the school's work to promote equalities and community cohesion.

Announcement Two

World Challenge Uganda Team 2011

We are delighted to announce the students who have been offered a place on Capital City Academy's World Challenge Uganda 2011 team. The World Challenge expedition will take place in July 2011. It lasts for three weeks with students spending 10-12 days working on a local community building project; 2-3 days trekking though the stunning environment of rural Uganda and finishes with a rest and relaxation phase.

Each student is responsible for raising £3000 in order to take part in this expedition. As a school community we will work hard to assist the fundraising process through events, challenges and competitons. Details of which will be communicated regularly via the newsletter and website. Any support you can offer in this process will be greatly appreciated.
