Sports, Health & Nutrition

As a Healthy School we want our young people to be healthy and achieve at school and in life.  We believe that by providing opportunities at school for enhancing physical and emotional health and wellbeing, we will improve long term health, reduce health inequalities, increase social inclusion and raise achievement for all.

We aim to support our young people in developing healthy behaviours by ensuring we have a welcoming eating environment that encourages the positive social interaction of students at break and at lunchtimes.  We  ensure that our students have the opportunities to learn about different food types in the context of a balanced diet and using the balance of good health and how to plan, budget, prepare and cook meals in controlled and organised lessons.

Our whole school physical activity policy includes a diverse and broad curriculum of sport, physical education and active leisure activities.  All students

enjoy a minimum of two hours high quality provision which is delivered within and beyond the school day.  We encourage  students to walk and cycle to and from school and involve cycling, swimming and speed walking as part of the P.E. curriculum.

Personal, Social and Health Education is a planned programme delivered to all students addressing sex, relationships, drugs, health and safety issues.  The young peoples' views are explored and respected within a caring and kind environment where professional advice is available for further information.

The detail of each of these three areas can be seen under Physical Education, PSHE and Food Technology.
