The Arts & Design

What is the definition of Arts and Design?  Within the context of the world around Arts and Design can be defined into two areas, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. Within Performing Arts there is Dance, Drama and Music, in Visual Arts there is Art, Craft and Design. Here at Capital City Academy we offer the students the experience of studying Art and Design, Graphic Design, Product Design, Textile Design, Dance, Drama and Music.

From this year we now offering an exciting, challenging and creative new curriculum where all students in Key Stage 3 will get to study Art and Design, Graphic Design, Product Design and Textiles Design and in Key Stage 4 and 5 they will choose what option is more suitable to their needs.  In the past The Design and Technology Department has worked separately from the Arts, but taking into account the creative environment of the world around us and the needs of the learners in our school, The Design and Technology Department and The Art and Design Department have become one department of Art and Design.

The value of Arts and Design education enables pupils to use their emotional and imaginative experience as part of their general development and to understand better the nature of artistic experience. Take advantage of various activities and media designed to develop their skills and increase their knowledge and understanding. Undertake a disciplined form of enquiry and expression. Organise their ideas and feelings while understanding better the nature of artistic experience and the meaning of the arts. Make an initial response to both their own personal experience and that of others, combined with undertaking observation, analysis and evaluation of such experiences. Participation and appreciation are complementary features of arts education.
