Who can apply?

We welcome applications from all students who meet our entry criteria.

What is the entry criteria?

The entry criteria is dependent on which subjects you choose to study. Please refer to the Course Guide for this information.

How many places are available?

There are 120 places available for AS level/BTEC National and 50 places available for BTEC First.  

What criteria are used when selecting for interview?

All students that apply will be invited for an interview.

When will I hear whether I have a conditional place or not? 

Conditional Offer letters will be sent out during the week beginning Monday 15th March 2010.

Can I change subjects after I have been offered a place?

It may be possible to make changes. This must be discussed at Enrollment.

What happens if I do not reach the offer conditions?

If you do not achieve the necessary grades for the subject(s) you have chosen; you unfortunately will not be able to take the subject(s). However staff will be available to discuss alternative options at Enrollment. 

If I get a waiting list place what are my chances?  

Reserve conditional offers will be sent out on Monday 15th March and you will be kept up-to-date as to your position on the waiting list. 

Do i have to wear a uniform?

There is no uniform for the Sixth Form however students are expected to wear Business Dress.

Do you cater for Gifted & Talented students?

Yes we do. G&T students are targeted early on and given the opportunity to attend master classes which challenge and support them. We also have an Aim Higher programme which personalises support for students.

Is there financial support for Sixth Form students at Capital?

Capital City Academy is part of the Educational Maintenance Award scheme (EMA), where depending on parental background students receive payment for excellent effort and attendance at school.

Will I have any free lessons?

Yes, all student will have some free lessons. However we prefer to call them study lessons. These are supervised and all students are expected to be in school at 8.40am until 3.10pm.

Is there any enrichment in the Sixth Form?

Many leadership opportunities are available (as detailed in the Leadership section). There are also various departmental trips in the UK and abroad. Additional clubs and classes are also on offer including sports and art.

If I start with 4 AS can I continue with 4 A2 in the second year? 

Yes this is possible following discussion with the relevant teachers.

If I change my mind about a course once I have started can I change? 

It is possible to make changes up until Monday 27th September following thorough discussions with yourself, teachers, parents and the Head of Year.  

How many students go on to University? 

We are a rapidly expanding Sixth Form with 95% of A2 students progressing to University.
