Students of the Year This award is given each year to 2 students graduating from Year 13.The award consists of an inscribed glass trophy and a cheque for £500. It is given to students who have shown outstanding commitment and achievement academically and also contribution to Capital City Academy and the wider community. The Students of the Year 2009 were Omar Arroum and Bharati Samaro.
The Active Play Leaders are a small group of Sixth Form students who have been put in charge of engaging younger students in sports activities during lunchtime. "I believe that this scheme is an excellent idea as it encourages students to participate in a variety of sporting activities, including football, basketball, tennis, table tennis and netball. It also gives the Sixth Form students a chance to interact and play sport with younger students." Jade Watson
Active Citizenship All Sixth Form students in Year 12 volunteer at least one period per week to assist in a variety of activities around the school. Students help in lessons, act as reading assistants to younger students, translate for parents and newly arrived EAL students.
Catering Mentors "I am part of a group of 12 students who have been trained to work in the catering department. Our duties cover distribution and payments of lunch, serving and operating the tills. We are also involved in assisting at other school events including the annual staff Christmas dinner. This scheme has been running for three years and involves Year 12 and 13 students. The work is very interesting and involves dealing with all the students and staff." Kishan Verakia
Sports & Community Leaders The BTEC Year 12 and 13 sports students have been fantastic this year, really outstanding! They are a group of highly motivated students who assist with the running of PE and games in the school. So far they have:
They have been outstanding and a real credit to themselves, the 6th form and the school. They take part in a variety of courses throughout the year including Football Level 1, Badminton Leaders Award and Indoor Athletics Leaders award. |
