Physical Education & Sport

Objectives

All pupils are entitled to a stimulating, exciting and relevant Physical and Sports Education. The elements of the programs of study reflect the changing emphasis of the delivery of the key motor skills and sport specific education both within the teaching and learning but also as a philosophy for long term achievement, confidence and excellence. The emphasis lies within the aim of maximising the potential of each individual. We wish to engage the students in the process of decision making within specific sports and use this as a method of accessing a healthy lifestyle. We are committed to developing the creative and curios mind which will contribute to the planning, reasoning and observation of both motor and sport skills at all levels. We will give access, to all of the students within the 14-19-age range, to accredited leadership, vocational and academic qualifications. We will use existing and new links with Institutions of Higher Education to enhance the promotion of Sport as a career option and in the coaching of the Academy students through Sports Leadership Awards. It is our aim to raise the standards of achievement and skill within Physical Education and Sport as well as impacting on the rest of the school, through inspirational motivation and cross curricular links, particularly in numeracy and literacy. Through an extensive enrichment and Out of School Hours program we will encourage all students in the desire to participate in physical activities.
