Sports Aptitude Test

There is a battery of 14 Tests which asses the aptitude of the students.

There is no need for preparation for the tests and they take about 1 hour to complete.

The actual tests are not disclosed as we wish to assess the ability and skill of the students without advantage.

None of the tests are sport related but instead focus upon the generic skills which are an integral part of all sports regardless of structure.

The tests are divided into 7 categories each with 2 tests.

The tests are:-

  • Agility
  • Balance
  • Co-Ordination
  • Speed
  • Kinaesthetic Awareness
  • Gliding
  • Striking

There are also considerations made to the gait of the student and their ability to follow instructions, although these aspects alone will not influence the skill of the student.

A score is given for each test related to the time of completion.

Through test groups and research in 2 other Boroughs across Mixed and Single sexed schools we have gained a lot of experience in administrating the tests.

We were the first school in the country to carry out generic skills tests and have completed tests since 2002. We have confidence in the tests and are now working with the London Gifted and Talented DfES funded organisation, The Youth Sports Trust and Queens Park Rangers Football Club in developing further a potential National template on the identification of talent.

We currently advise other schools and Academies in the testing of Sports Aptitude.

Once identified the students if allocated a place at the Academy will be monitored and tracked within Physical and Sport Education to a pathway of achievement through club links and access onto the Junior Athlete Education Programme.
