Drama
Drama is an exciting aspect of the curriculum at Capital City Academy. Pupils at Key Stage 3 will enjoy one hour of Drama per week and then the subject is available to choose as a GCSE option and at AS/A2 Level. Drama is an excellent tool for communication and through the subject we hope to enable the pupils to develop their communication, co-operation, control and concentration skills. Drama is important in allowing pupils the opportunity to express themselves creatively and a wide programme of enrichment activities is also offered to the pupils. At Key Stage Three pupils will study six units of work. These have been especially written for the pupils at the Academy and focus on the individual pupils needs allowing for differentiation and accessibility for all. The schemes of work have been developed through consideration of the English, Speaking and Listening National Curriculum and the Drama Objectives Bank. A detailed overview of the curriculum and a sample scheme of work can be found below. GCSE Drama is a challenging option. Pupils have two coursework options which comprise of two, six hour practical examinations. These are completed during class time and are finished by the end of Term 1. In Term 2 the cohort will be externally examined on their performance skills. Pupils will have to produce a piece of original drama or work from a script and produce a piece of theatre lasting 20 minutes. The pupils perform to a packed audience in the Capital City Academy Theatre. In Term 3 pupils will have the opportunity to further enhance the written coursework completed for Unit 1. We offer pupils the opportunity to study Drama and Theatre Studies at AS and A2 Level, a course which allows academic study and practical exploration.
