Dance is an exciting aspect of the curriculum at Capital City Academy. Pupils at Key Stage 3 will enjoy one hour of Dance per week and then the subject is available to choose as a GCSE option and at AS/A2 Level.
Dance is an excellent tool for self expression and artistic exploration and through the subject we hope to enable the pupils to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding through performance, composition and appreciation. Dance is important in allowing pupils the opportunity to express themselves creatively and a wide programme of enrichment activities is also offered to the pupils.
At Key Stage Three pupils will study six units of work. These have been especially written for the pupils at the Academy and focus on the individual pupils needs allowing for differentiation and accessibility for all. The schemes of work have been developed through consideration of the Physical Education’s Programmes of Study in the National Curriculum http://www.nc.uk.net/nc/contents/PE-home.htm .
Key Stage Four Dance is a challenging option. Pupils have coursework options which comprise of 3 units, that each entails 6 pieces of assessment assignments. These are completed during class time and are finished by the end of the academic year the cohort will be externally examined on their performance skills and their written skills .
We offer pupils the opportunity to study Dance at AS and A2 Level, a course which allows academic study and practical exploration.
