Royal Opera House Project.

Year seven students continue to work towards a performance at the Royal Opera House in July. Our group of year seven students are responsible for both composing the music and also for the choreography. Members of the Royal Opera House team have now spent three days in school helping students to channel their creative energies and the project is being lead in school by Mr. Borrington (Music) and Miss. Reynolds (Dance) The culmination of this project will be two performances in the Royal Opera House in the first week of July. Student will also be performing their work at school in a special showing for parents and the local community.

Thornbridge Hall Vist.

In February Mr. Borrington and Miss. Reynolds took a group of singers and dancers away for a weekend to Thornbridge Hall Outdoors Centre near Bakewell in Derbyshire. The students spent three days working towards various individual projects and spending time team building. The setting was idyllic and the weather contributed to a wonderful weekend away.

Year Nine Students Take Performing Arts GCSE a year early.

This year a small group of year nine students have been entered for the AQA Applied GCSE in Performing Arts. This means that these students will go in to year 10 having already completed one GCSE. The course is a relatively new course piloted with schools over the last three years and available for general entry for the first time in 2007. Members of the Choir, and several other students in year 9 have been selected to trial this course at Capital City Academy. If successful it will be rolled out to more students next year.

Creative Partnerships Celebrate 2 years.

Students from year 8 together with some year 11 students who took part in a 12 week DJ course here at school took part in the celebrations of two years working with Creative Partnerships this week. The event was managed by students from another Brent Secondary school. Students from several of the Creative Partnerships Core Schools attended gave presentations to show how they had worked with Creative Partnerships and spoke about what they had gained from the experience. Projects ranged from DJ’ing to Capoera and students from both primary and secondary schools took part. As well as taking part in the presentations students were able to enjoy the corporate style hospitality with live music, carnival entertainers and buffet lunch.

Motown Concert.

On Thursday 27th March students will be performing music from the Motown label at a special concert in school. The idea behind the evening was to provide year 11 students with a performance opportunity for some of their GCSE coursework but the event has grown beyond this and will consist of a live band with students performing 15 of the most popular songs from artists such as Steve Wonder, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and many others.
