Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)The open spaces of Capital City Academy are filled with the sounds of many languages. Our students bring to the school a huge variety of their own languages and cultures and our department benefits from their enthusiasm to learn another European language as well as their linguistic awareness. We offer students in Key Stage 3 the opportunity to learn French, German or Spanish and they are encouraged to continue this language to GCSE. In 2005/2006 students will be able to choose between French, Spanish or German when they come into year 7. The following year we are aiming to offer our most able students the opportunity to learn a second language. In addition to sitting GCSEs in the language they have been studying, all our students are encouraged to sit exams in their mother tongue. Open Day Cook-InOn the 8th of October 2006, Capital City Academy held an annual Open Evening for prospective parents of Y6 pupils, to provide the opportunity to view the extensive facilities, meet the staff and talk to its current pupils.
The atmosphere was buzzing as a packed hall listened to a keynote addressed by the principal, Mr P O'Hear, who was accompanied by key members of staff, involved in the Y6 to Y7 induction process. The MFL department prepared displays of materials and resources in the three languages currently offered (German, French and Spanish) and provided visitors with samples of food cooked by a group of students from Year 8 and 9. Here are some photos of the cook-in to give you a "flavour" of the event and the preparation by the MFL team!! |
