ICT

Key Stage 5 - Year 12 and Year 13

Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA)

DiDA is a vocational course which focuses on the practical application of various aspects of ICT. It is a course which prepares students for the real world or gives them a solid foundation on which to continue into Higher Education.

The DiDA is the full course and is worth 4 GCSEs. Students must complete 4 units of work; 1) Using ICT, 2) Multimedia, 3) Graphics, and 4) ICT in Enterprise.

Students learn to develop their creativity and practical skills using all aspects of ICT from designing websites to creating fully functional databases.

The course is 100% coursework and is purely computer based. Students create an E-Portfolio for each unit of work. The E-Portfolio is in website format and includes every aspect of their project.

At Key Stage 5, students will complete the DiDA qualification in 1 year.

October – Unit 1 (Using ICT) deadline
December – Unit 2 (Multimedia) deadline
February – Unit 3 (Graphics) deadline
March – Unit 4 (ICT in Enterprise) deadline

 

Autumn

Using ICT

This is the core unit for the core and builds skills which are required throughout the full or half course. Students study how ICT is used for different purposes. Creating surveys, researching on topics and creating documents to present their findings.

·        Working with information

·        Presenting information

·        Print and digital publishing

·        Creating an e-portfolio

·        Project planning, monitoring and evaluation

Multimedia

Unit 2 enables students to gain practical ability in a range of multimedia applications such as website design.  The content of the unit includes:

·        Investigating multimedia products

·        Designing and developing multimedia products

·        Prototyping and testing

·        Presenting multimedia products in an e-portfolio

·        Project planning, monitoring and evaluation

Spring

Graphics

In this unit students have the ability to design and produce artwork that is effective at communicating with different audiences on screen and in print.  Students study:

·        Selecting material

·        Developing graphic images

·        Using appropriate software, such as bit-map and vector-based tools

·        Preparing images for screen and print

·        Presenting work in an e-portfolio and creating an e-exhibition

Project planning, monitoring and evaluation

ICT in Enterprise

Students in this unit discover how to use ICT in business situations. They will apply business techniques such as market research, financial planning and product promotion to their skills in digital applications.  It develops important real-world skills, including communication, problem solving and decision making.  Students study:

·        Exploring business opportunities

·        Preparing and presenting business plans

Summer

ICT in Enterprise (continued)

·     Business communications

·     Advertising and promotions

·     Project planning, monitoring and evaluation

·     Creating an e-business plan
