Key Stage 3 - Year 8 Key Dates | | June – End of Year Assessment |
Autumn | | In this term students will create an Information System for a travel company. They will learn how to import information into spreadsheets, understand the three parts of a system – input, process and output. Students then move on to a unit focussing on Web Design. They will learn about the different design techniques used in Web Design, how to layout a page to make it easy to use and create a small functioning website. | Spring | | Students will spend 4 weeks looking into how to use the Internet, how to refine searches, use keywords and utilise the information that they find. They will then look at how the information itself must be checked for validity, reliability and bias. The next unit of work builds on the Modelling unit in Year 7. Students will develop more complex models, using more advanced spreadsheet techniques to create charts, graphs and formulae. | Summer | | The last unit of work of Year 8 is the Greenhouse Project where students utilise all of the skills and understanding they have acquired in Year 7 and 8. They will be working on the “Phoenix Centre Charity” project to see whether the school would be able to run a Greenhouse. They will look at how to control a Greenhouse using flowchart software, design financial spreadsheets to analyse whether the project would be profitable for the charity, and write a report to present their findings. |
