Key Stage 4 - Year 10 and Year 11

GCSE Religious Education

GCSE RE is a chance to explore some of the big questions and examine how two of the world’s main religions respond to them.  It is a chance for pupils to investigate and formulate their own opinions on some of today’s most pressing issues.  As well as learning to debate and discuss their ideas, students will develop the skills of written argument.

Year 10

Religions studied:  Christianity and Islam

·         What is the law on abortion?

·         What are the arguments for and against abortion?

·         What is euthanasia?

·         What are the arguments for and against euthanasia?

·         What are the different beliefs about life after death?

Spring

Believing in God.

Religions studied:

Christianity.

·         Why do some people believe in God and others not?

·         What are the arguments for God’s existence?

·         What issues sometimes make it difficult for people to believe in God?

Summer

Marriage and the Family

Religions studied:

Christianity and Islam

·         What do Christianity and Islam say about sexual relationships, contraception and cohabitation?

·         What does marriage mean to Muslims and Christians?

·         Where do Islam and Christianity stand on divorce?

·         What do these religions teach about the family?

 

Year 11

·         What is the role of women in Islam?

·         What do these religions teach about racism?

Religion, wealth and poverty

Religions studied:

Christianity and Islam.

·         What is the nature of wealth and poverty.

·         What do Christianity and Islam teach about it?

·         What do religions do to respond to world poverty?

Summer

Revision and consolidation.
