Design & Technology

Key Stage 3 - Year 7

At Key Stage 3 Design and Technology is a compulsory part of the lower school curriculum and is run on a carousel system with each child rotating through the departments four subject areas.

Resistant Materials 1

Candle holder

All students will design and make a multi material candle holder. All the practical skills used are based around the shaping of different materials, aluminium, copper and wood.

Food Technology

The theme for this unit is designing for manufacturing. The pupils carry out a variety of practical tasks on cakes and scones in which they design and make new products with a range of fillings and flavourings for a target group.
Pupils gain the knowledge, skills and understanding they need through a variety of techniques to prepare and process foods. They also learn safety and hygiene when handling food.

Graphics

Book Binding

Produce a hand bound book decorated with marbled paper. Design and print a front cover. Major homework will be the researching and collecting of images and information for inside the book.

Resistant Materials 2

Key Ring

All students will design and make a Key Ring tag out of two pieces of Acrylic.

All the skills used are based around the cutting, shaping and finishing of acrylic.


Tools used will include Coping saw, Drilling machine and Buffing machine.
