About the course

Students who take GCSE Art and Design will follow the Edexcel specification. The course will encourage an adventurous and enquiring approach to Art and Design whilst giving the opportunity to develop skills and self expression. Students will build on the work completed at key stage 3 and develop their understanding of historical and contemporary Art and Design.

The course is unendorsed, meaning students will have the opportunity to investigate a wide range of art, craft and design skills and techniques including, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, fashion, photography, digital media and graphic design/illustration. However if a student has an area of specialism they wish to pursue they will be encouraged to follow that interest in year 11.

Structure of the course

The course is divided into two sections. Over two years students will complete two units of coursework and an externally set assignment (ESA).
