In Performing Arts pupils develop both new and existing skills in a range of performance disciplines.  The curriculum offers students various opportunities in performing arts disciplines including; dance, acting, singing, music, music technology and set design.

The courses at Key Stage 3 offer an appropriate foundation for progression in performing arts; drama, music and dance.

At Key Stage 4 the GCSE Drama, Music and Dance specifications aim to:

  • increase confidence and self-esteem
  • employ the skills of problem solving and creativity
  • develop musicality: timing, phrasing and sensitivity
  • explore genres, understanding their social, cultural and historical context
  • allow pupils to work collaboratively to generate, develop and communicate ideas
  • encourage students to reflect on and evaluate their own work and that of others
  • develop the ability to analyse, evaluate and appreciate

We have a dedicated performing arts team who aim to foster a passion for performing arts and a love of learning through drama, music and dance. We offer all students the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities culminating in performances to parents, staff, local primary schools and the wider community.

Media

The Media department at Capital City Academy is an increasingly popular, growing and successful department.

Media is offered to students for the first time in year 9 and students are able to take up the subject at A Level.

At A Level, students study both a theoretical and practical approach to media studies and new media. They explore textual analysis, media industries, evaluation of production work and critical perspectives.

At GCSE, students have the chance to develop a critical understanding of the role of the media in daily life. They are encouraged to develop an understanding of how to use key media concepts to analyse media products and have the opportunity for hands-on practical work.

Catering

Catering is a fun, energetic and rewarding subject. It is a chance to arm pupils with sensible, practical knowledge that they can take into the world and actually use. Pupils will learn how to cook great food that tastes amazing, see a big improvement in their confidence and skills, improve their knowledge on nutrition, meal planning and budgeting. Cooking and nutrition is without a doubt one of the most important things a person can ever learn!
