Our aim at Capital City Academy is to ensure that all our students receive an art rich education that is meaningful, inspiring and fulfilling. At its core it is our desire to nurture creativity and to instil the excitement about learning art. The curriculum encompasses the skills and knowledge required to develop confidence and understanding of the different art specialisms. We seek to challenge and support our students to grow to become independent competent young artists. We provide a stimulating practical learning environment for students to develop their own visual language promoting student wellbeing and self-esteem in order for students to have a better understanding of themselves and the society we live in.
In the Capital City Classroom we provide maximum opportunities for all students to express their creative imagination as well as providing them with opportunities to practise and develop mastery skills within the key processes of art. We provide students with opportunities to experiment, invent and interpret works of art enabling students to appreciate practices of artists and cultures from the past and present. Lessons are designed to provide a supportive structure where students receive regular diagnostic teacher feedback, peer assessment, self-assessment, and practical projects to ensure skills and knowledge are being explored through highly personal ways, increasing self reflection and independence. Creative methodologies are repeated to increase competency and to make sure high levels of progress for all students. Cross curricular connections are made in order to have a positive impact on the development of every student, preparing them for life and the next phase of their education.
