Art Student of the Month

The Art department is pleased to announce that Year 8 Art students are the new winners of the 'Student of the Month' award. This award recognises deserving students and aims to encourage their continued commitment to art practice. Student outcomes explored the concept and investigated different ways artists have depicted themselves through a range of styles. They were inspired to explore portraiture through Kahlo's symbolic portraits, Van Gogh’s impressionist self-portraits and Picasso’s portrait prints. Year 8 students created a very successful half portrait and portraits of famous celebrities looking carefully at their use of scale, proportion and symmetry. The were very successful in capturing the mood of the person using a variety of line tone and texture. We are very proud of their outcomes.

Congratulations!

Well done to all our GCSE and UAL Art students on completing some outstanding exam pieces.

Trips to the Old Vic

On Wednesday 4th May some lucky Year 9s were able to travel to the Old Vic and watch a new play entitled 'The 47th' which is set in the future, in 2024, and saw Donald Trump run for office once more. It was a thrilling, entertaining and disturbing piece all in one. The students were clearly happy afterwards and were able to discuss what they liked and why.

On Friday 6th May a workshop followed where some facilitators from the Old Vic came to Capital to run a workshop on Set Design. The Art Department was wonderful in giving some resources which meant the Drama students could make their own model sets!
