Sports Highlights
Posted on: 28/02/2022Year 5/6 Brent Primary Indoor Sports Hall Athletics
Despite Covid issues putting a lot of pressure on our partnership schools we managed to have 200 children taking part in this event.
The commitment, energy and enthusiasm from the participants was fantastic. Some amazing athletes out there.
The event was run by Sports Leaders from Year 12/13 and Year10. They all worked together to support and train the new leaders.
Well done to Malorees Junior School who were the winners. They went on to represent Brent in the quarter finals of London Youth Games and came 5th.
Infant Festival
The first infant festival took place this week. Year 12 leaders ran this fun event for Year 1-2 children from Carlton Vale and Our Lady of Grace infant schools.
We had 120 children taking part in a number of activities and for many of them it was their first trip out of school and their first sports event.
Special mention to the staff that brought the children to the event, they joined in and inspired all the children by beating the Leaders in a Tug “0” War.
Dame Kelly Holmes Trust
We are delighted to be asked to be involved with this organisation. Some Year 8 and Year 9 girls have been chosen to work on a project with Hannah Beharry throughout the year.
"Success isn’t given, it’s earned." No one knows this better than Hannah Beharry.
Hannah was bullied since the age of 6, struggled with dyslexia and ADHD, and was constantly told not to follow her dream because “girls can’t play boy’s sports”. The world was always telling Hannah she couldn’t succeed. She didn’t listen. Hannah followed her passion and first started boxing in 2005.
As a testament to her skill, despite adversity, Hannah became one of the most prominent female boxers in the UK. Her achievements include:
- No. 1 British Female Boxer in the UK for 9 years
- 2 x European Boxing Champion
- Ranked no. 3 worldwide
- One of the first women to box for Great Britain.
Hannah retired from competing in 2012. Now she works to help others, specialising in bespoke one-on-one sessions where she uses her extensive boxing experience to help clients achieve their goals. Hannah more than anyone understands that with hard work and passion, training can change your life.”
We were delighted to offer free half term sports activities for our students. Students were able to access basketball and fitness sessions for four days during half term. Mentoring and support was offered alongside physical activity. Thank you to our partners Local People Brent, Sported UK, London Elite and Active Sporting Communities to allow these activities to take place.
