Summer School 2021Posted on: 06/09/2021
Summer School 2021 was a huge success and it was wonderful to see so many children attending!
We were so pleased that we could hold a Summer School for both our new cohort of students transitioning to Capital City Academy and for our year 7 students moving into year 8 who had missed out on many opportunities in their first year at school due to Covid restrictions.
Over the course of the two weeks, students took part in a range of activities led by Capital City staff supported by Capital students. We were also fortunate enough to have Saracens rugby deliver a range of sporting activities for the students including rugby, dance and team building.
Some particular highlights of our staff…
“Summer School as a whole, was a highlight. It was wonderful to see some of the new students so keen and enthusiastic. They were keen to learn and participated well in the literacy lessons. It was great to see new friendships begin to blossom.” Ms Reilly
“It was an honour meeting students during the summer school. In Drama we were able to consider how the recent heavy rain and flooding in London/Europe was altering our viewpoint on safety. Students were then tasked with creating their own play called 'The flood' before showing it the day after. It was clear that there were some real budding stars.” Mr Kensit
"In their wellbeing session, the students took part in a fun team building activity which involved building a freestanding tower out of spaghetti and two pieces of marshmallow. They rounded off with a breathing exercise and visualised what they wanted to achieve in September." Ms Hussein
Thank you to all of the staff and students that delivered sessions, it really was a fun- filled two weeks but also a very important part of the transition process to support students moving from primary to secondary school.
