The Impact of Lockdown on Our Nations Children

Capital City Academy has been working hard with like-minded people across the country as part of the Schools Active Movement to raise concerns about the impact of lockdown on children’s Health and Wellbeing.

We are delighted that as a result of our campaign over 2,600 schools took part in a survey providing important data for us to present to Government. In addition MP Barry Gardiner raised the issue in parliament, as you can see in this article.

Community Work

 Fun Fit Families

We are delighted that live sessions of Malorees Junior School Fun Fit Families have re-started with great success. This project was possible due to Capital Sports Partnership's successful bid to acquire the funding to deliver these sessions. It is great to see children and parents getting fit together.

NFL First Pitch

NFL First Pitch successfully trained up to 20 schools to deliver baseball in their schools. Schools were delighted with the free resources and equipment bags.

We had the largest attendance at our CPD since the project was launched nationally. This represented a great effort from our primary teachers who continue to ensure they offer new and exciting initiatives to our children.

Youth Isolation Project

Recent research has shown that a number of young people have been feeling isolated during lockdown and are struggling in school. To ensure our older students are supported, we have launched the first of our Youth Isolation Projects this week. We have 15 girls aged 14+ engaging in physical activity each week in a local community hall. There is a big demand for an additional session. Capital City Academy girls' session is due to start after half term at Willesden Sports Centre. If you would like to get involved contact Mrs McDonnell or your Head of Year.

Brent Goes Wild

We are delighted to announce an exciting collaboration between the PE, Science and Arts departments.

Brent Goes Wild is a partnership enabling Children and Young People aged 6-14, from backgrounds currently under-represented in science and natural heritage, to discover for themselves their innate capabilities for curiosity and experimentation. The programme aims to provide young people with the chance to explore aspects of STEM in less formal settings with the intent to ignite new interest and/or raise attainment in STEM subjects.

Through our partnership work we have been invited to be involved with a STEM project.

The Sports Partnership has been recognised as being an organisation with existing best practice approaches in developing confidence, skills, and resilience and preventing risky behaviours for vulnerable young people.

We will be offering community-based activities and exciting projects that our students can get involved with. Thanks go to Mr Hastings and Ms Guimaraes who will be leading the project with us.

Girls QPR Premier League Football Festival 2021

Our Year 7 and 8 girls' football teams attended their first fixtures and training sessions of the 2020/21 season. Please see some pictures below that we are pleased to share with you.

We were invited to Queens' Park Rangers, Kiyan Prince Stadium, to train and compete in the QPR Premier League Football Festival on the 17th and 18th May.

The girls participated in training sessions led by the QPR coaching staff as well as playing competitively against Kensington Aldridge Academy, All Saints Academy and Alperton Community School.

Goodbye from Mr Caldwell

After 13 and a half years I will sadly be leaving Capital City Academy. I have absolutely loved my time here and go with fond memories of all you. I wanted to thank all of you students, parents and staff for your support and hard work over the years and wish you all the best of luck.

I will be working much closer to home as an Assistant Headteacher at Chessbrook Education Centre in Watford which starts on June 6th.

I will miss all of you and everything about Capital. The only thing I won't miss is the long drive into and out of work! It has been an absolute privilege to be a part of CCA. So take care everyone.

All the best,

Mr C
