Capital Creative Writing Anthology

Posted on: 20/10/2020

When the world closed its doors, businesses bolted their offices and schools locked their classrooms, Capital City Academy students opened their creative drives and began to write.

The idea for the Capital Creative Anthology began when I received a poem entitled ‘2020’ by Daniel Lopes in Year 11. To encapsulate the events of this turbulent time within a poem is no small feat and yet Daniel did so with finesse, maturity and literary skill. Once the competition was open, submissions came flying in. After three weeks we had received up to 70 entries of poetry, short stories and memoir.

Thank you to all those who entered the competition and to the wonderful members of the English department who carefully judged the semi-finalists. I would also like to send a big thank you to George the Poet, who took time out of his very busy schedule to judge and give feedback to the winners.

Capital City students have truly inspired us all during this challenging time and this anthology is a microcosm of the creativity, resilience and diverse talents that our students demonstrate so well.
