Biology in Action Day
Posted on: 20/03/2017On Tuesday 14th March, A Level Biology students in Year 12 and Year 13 attended a ‘Biology in Action’ study day at UCL IOE. They attended a series of lectures on different areas of biology and experienced what studying at university entails. There were talks by expert scientists in different fields such as marine biology and epigenetics which explored whether we are really anything more than just our DNA. Students also heard a talk from James Piercy who experienced a car accident which resulted in a severe head injury. He spoke about how he recovered from the experience and how his brain has ‘rewired’ to enable him to get on with his life. Along with this there was a talk from renowned geneticist and broadcaster Steve Jones and a primatologist. Students learned about how these scientists got into their respective fields and what they do as part of their jobs, as well as top tips on how to succeed in A level Biology. Overall it was a really successful day.
