Arts Week 2019Posted on: 01/11/2019
Cross-curriculum Arts Week ran from Monday 28th October - Friday 1st November.
This year’s Arts Week was inspired by the work of Lubaina Himid.
Lubaina Himid was born in Tanzania and is the 2017 Turner Prize Winner.
Himid seeks to examine and challenge the way black figures have been depicted throughout Art History. Her paintings, sculptural pieces and installations explore ideas around black creativity, history and identity. Students will be exploring the diversity of cultures and exploring the identity of Capital City Academy through visual form. We will be exhibiting the work on Wednesday 13th November from 5-7pm. We look forward to sharing the students' work with you.
‘Unlike a drop of water which loses its identity when it joins the ocean, people do not lose their being in the society in which they live. A person’s life is independent, born not for the development of society alone, but for the development of his self.’ — Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar
