This Girl Can
Posted on: 26/09/2019A number of our girls from Years 9, 10, 12 and 13 were selected to be part of a new campaign for Sport England. Their images will be widely used for the national This Girl Can campaign, including a schools resource, so this was a great opportunity for our girls to be part of this and to be role models for other girls.
What is This Girl Can?
This Girl Can celebrates active women who are doing their thing no matter how they do it, how they look or how sweaty they get. They tell the real stories of women who get active or play sport in the way that’s right for them, using images that show what activity really looks like in all its sweaty, red-faced, glory. Launched in 2015, the campaign has successfully persuaded nearly three million women to get more active – but their work isn’t done yet.
What is the context?
The images from the shoot will also be a significant stimulus for the This Girl Can – create change! schools’ resource. The resource will be distributed to every secondary school in England and will be launched in Autumn 2019.
In developing the resource, they consulted with a diverse range of more than 100 girls as to what they needed for the resource. Images are a critical element to the resource, in order to ensure that:
Girls noticed and would look at the resource.
Girls believe that the campaign is something they could and would want to be involved in.
The resource focuses on motivations that are important to girls.
What is the objective of the project?
To help spread their message across the country, Sport England offer a free photography library to all their supporters to use in their own campaigns, activating This Girl Can’s values in their local areas and helping to get women and girls moving more and feeling great. This year they are expanding the library to include more girls and more activities across England.

As you can see, these are examples of women having fun exercising, sweaty and red-faced with a great attitude.
