Salusbury World Trip to GSMA

Posted on: 05/04/2019

The GSMA - Groupe Spéciale Mobile Association - is the global trade association for mobile phone operators and associated companies. While they have offices from Atlanta to Kenya to Shanghai, the headquarters are here in London.

Salusbury World took a dozen pupils from Years 8-10 to see the rather swish offices and to hear presentations from tech analysts about the work done at GSMA. They spoke about the internet of things (IoT) and the coming next generation of mobile phones, 5G. We also heard about their Case for Change campaign, aimed to help meet UN sustainable Development Goals, for example by using mobile connectivity to bring educational resources to classrooms in places that do not have internet connections. You can get an awful lot of text books on a mobile phone app!

Once the GSMA presentations were over, it was Capital pupils' turn: they were given a short project to come up with ideas for future technological devices, the ones that might need 6, 7 or even 8G technology to work.

Thanks to Zehra Chudry for organising the visit!
