Posted on: 12/02/2021Safer Internet DayThis week saw the 18th annual Safer Internet Day. In order to support better internet safety across our community we have invested with 'National Online Safety', an organisation which aims to support parents, teachers and students wellbeing while on line. Capital teachers have benefited this year from their excellent online courses to promote online safety across the school. In addition, the guidance and resources they provide for use with students is exemplary. As part of our investment, Capital parents are also allowed free access to the resources and advice available online. One advantage of their service are the regular updates on new platforms and news briefs on the ever changing online landscape. The breadth of advice is massive, as you are able to access guidance on a diversity of topics such as grooming, fake news and even internet shopping. Please take some time to click the link, register and support Capital in promoting online safety for your children. http://nationalonlinesafety.com/enrol/capital-city-academy-nw10
Posted on: 8/02/2021Ahmed - winner of the William Soutar Writing Prize 2020A massive congratulations to the poetry champion Ahmed, who won the William Soutar Writing Prize for 2020. This was a national competition and over 700 people voted for their favourite entrant before selecting Ahmed as the final winner. The judges noted that Ahmed’s wonderful spoken word poem, 'When Coronavirus Started', really stood out from the rest. Asif Khan, the judge of the competition commented: “I was impressed by Ahmed’s turn of phrase and lyricism.” Here is the link to watch the performance of the poem. Ahmed began writing this poem during a PSHE lesson about ways of dealing with coronavirus. His poem is a testament to the idea that writing creatively is a brilliant outlet to express ourselves during these difficult circumstances. It is also an encapsulation of the many creative talents that our Capital students possess. Ahmed has received a hamper of books and stationery to support him to develop his creative writing skills. We look forward to reading many more of Ahmed’s Creative Writing pieces.
